2014 Porsche 991 GT3 Sounds

2014 Porsche 991 GT3 in all it's glory.

It's a new car

Woman wins an Audi R8 on "The Price is Right".  Biggest prize ever given away in the history of the show and definitely the coolest.

Former Top Gear Stig Ben Collins Reveals All In Hilarious Reddit Open Thread

The folks over at http://www.carthrottle.com posted up this great summary of Ben Collins Ask Me Anything on Reddit:  http://www.carthrottle.com/former-top-gear-stig-ben-collins-reveals-all-in-hilarious-reddit-open-thread/

Our favorite is learning what Jeremy's hair feels like, cause we know everyone is wondering but would probably never want to touch it themselves.

AMMO NYC: Review of the Porsche 964

Check out this review of the AMMO NYC Porsche 964 by Mike Musto

Don't jump in that car

Like the title says, don't jump in that car. Serious, don't do it, he wants to take you home.

I DRIVE NEW YORK

Seeing this video, from the folks over at Petrolicious" really makes me glad i live in North Carolina and have my own garage to keep my car in.  Definitely see the concern that many classic car owners would have in New York city.  There are a ton of very bad drivers on the road, cars are parked with bumpers touching and there are always those spiteful people that take out their jealously or envy in the form of rage.  I would not be opposed to drive a classic or high-end car in New York city but it would be a much more stressful time than cruising around North Carolina.

Urban Outlaw

If you haven't seen this video yet, I'd recommend blocking off the next thirty minutes to do so, especially if you are fond of Porsches or any classic sports cars.  +Magnus Walker really shows his passion and creativeness in these re-imaged and rebuilt Porsches.

Michael Schumacher skiing accident

Michael Shumacher suffered head trauma while skiing today and his Facebook page just posted that; "Michael is currently in a coma and required immediate neurological treatment following his head trauma sustained earlier today. More information to follow when available."
The last post on his Facebook page is that the hospital will release a further update at 10am GMT tomorrow morning.  Reports have also indicated that he was wearing a helmet at the time of the accident and skiing on unmarked trails.  Must have really been a bad one to have such an injury with a helmet.  Here's to hoping for a quick and speedy recover.  Our thoughts are with Michael and his family.

Comedians in Cars Getting Coffee; Louis C.K.

Season Three of Jerry Seinfeld's show wasn't supposed to debut until the 2nd of January, but the first episode is already out.  Definitely worth the 23 minutes to watch. And if you haven't seen his previous seasons, they are worth it.

Top Netflix streaming movies for gearheads

Below are my top "gearhead" movies currently streaming on Netflix.  Most of these are documentaries, since I have not found many fictional action movies on Netflix relating to cars that are not choked full of cheesy race scenes, poor story lines and inaccurate car related info.  Enjoy.

License to Drive (1988) - Corey Haim, Corey Feldman and Heather Graham complete the cast in this classic 80's movie revolving around the freedom that comes with a driver's license.  I don't think kids these day's have the same strong desire to gain independence through a driver's license and the keys to the parents cars.  Just tune out the annoying 80's music during the car chase/driving scenes and you'll enjoy this one just that little bit more.

Senna (2010) - Ayrton Senna, even though we all know how it ends, it still will bring the toughest gearhead to tears.  Just tell em you got some gasoline in your eye and let em flow.

Red Bull: Return to Millen Mountain (2011) - Rhys Millen's Pikes Peak in his Red Bull Hyundai Genesis

The World's Fastest Indian (2005) - Anthony Hopkins, based on the true story of New Zealand gearhead and 67 year old grandfather Burt Monro's attempts at breaking land speed records on an Indian Scout motorcycle

Racing Dreams (2009) - Follow three very young go-kart racers as they attempt to reach their dreams of becoming professional drivers.  Great movie, makes me wish I had started go-kart racing as a kid.  Annabeth Barnes, one of the young drivers featured in this movie and from North Carolina, is still racing and steadily moving up into bigger and faster rides.

Truth in 24 II: Every Second Counts (2012) - Audi's struggles and successes during the 2011 24 Hours of Le Mans race.

Dust to Glory (2005) - Baja 1000 through the eyes of several different racers and vehicle types. Caution, this will make you want to buy a car and head south to join in the next race.

Love the Beast (2009) - Documentary covering the life of Eric Bana and his "beast" a Ford XB Falcon Coupe.

Road Warriors: Baja 500 (2011) - Find out what it takes to compete in this grueling racing through several different teams.

Honorable Mentions:

Race for Glory (2013) - Interviews and footage from several top NASCAR drivers looking at their faith, family and teamwork.
Moto 4: The Movie (2012) - Motocross's top riders
Sturgis Motorcycle Mania (2008) - Discovery Channel overview of multiple aspects of the Sturgis Motorcycle Rally.
Faster (2003) - Ewan McGregor narrated documentary on MotoGP racing
Fastest (2011) - Second, follow up, Ewan McGregor narrated documentary on MotoGP racing.
Charge (2011) - Follow several teams to the world's first electric Isle of Man GP in 2009 and 2010
Tomorrow Will Be Better (2012) - Czech rider Libor Podmol's journey into Freestyle MX.
On Any Sunday (1971) - Exploration of motorcycle racing

Aston Martin V12 Vantage video from Hooniverse

Great video from "The Hooniverse" on the 2015 Aston Martin V12 Vantage.  I haven't had the opportunity to take one out for a spin just yet, but did drool on one while visiting +Foreign Cars Italia of Greensboro a few weeks ago.

Gran Turismo 6 update

Gran Turismo 6 was released for the Playstation 3 on 6 December 2013.  Unfortunately, I pre-ordered it and had to wait a few more days after the release date for it to arrive.  Normally a few extra days of waiting wouldn't be bad, but I was really looking forward to this release and knew I would be away from home for most of Dec, further limiting the time I would have to play.
I've been playing for a few weeks now and am still impressed with the game.  There were initial some grumblings about the lack of prize cars and limited about of money received from each race.  The money issue was solved with the most recent update (1.02).  Included in this update was the Red Bull X Challenge and the consecutive Login Bonus.  By just logging in online, you receive 110% credits on the first day and up to 200% for the fifth day.  I currently have 6,979,937 credits because of this 200% bonus on credits earned.  The biggest credits come from the Seasonal Events, but you only receive the credits once for each level (bronze, silver and gold).  So you receive no credits for the twenty times it takes to get your time down from silver to gold.
I still have a ways to go and many more stars to collect but am making steady progress and looking forward to the next round of seasonally events.

Jeep Cherokee

Photos of the new Jeep Cherokee do not really do it justice.  The front looks squished and odd in all the photos I've seen but in person it looks much better.  I've only seen a few in passing but so far am pretty impressed with how they look in person.  Guess I need to get my hands on one to check out the interior and see how they drive.

New Audi A3 commercials for the Super Bowl

The folks over at Autoblog.com just posted
four new commercials for the Audi A3.

Looks like the new A3 will be the star of the Super Bowl ads this year and the four clips show the theme of buyers remorse and waiting for the right luxury car (A3) to come in April of 2014.  Better check out the videos before they disappear.  Seems like a good direction for Audi to go with the A3 but only time will tell how warm of a reception the car with get in the US.  For the longest time, BMW was the top car that young professionals aspired to own, but for the past year or so, it seems that Audi is taking over that role. Guess BMW sedan has been
played out and a become a bit to common these days.

Porsche by Design: Seducing Speed at the North Carolina Museum of Art

The North Carolina Museum of Art is hosting a special exhibit through 20 January 2014 titled "Porsche by Design, Seducing Speed".  Included in the exhibit are numerous vehicles from the Porsche Museum in Stuttgart, Germany and several private collections.  This is rare, once in a life time opportunity to view some of these amazing vehicles in North Carolina. Once the exhibit is closed, you'll have to fly to Germany to even have a chance of seeing these cars again.
In addition to the exhibit, there are several special car related movies and speaking events along with a chance to win a brand new Boxster and Cayman.  So what are you waiting for, get to the museum before it's too late.
